Poor sleep effects us all at some point whether it’s trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. The major question is, how to improve sleep naturally?

When poor sleep patterns continue it can lead to fatigue, trouble waking in the morning, brain fog, slow metabolism, and general sluggishness. Prescription medications meant to help with sleep quality can cause other unwanted side effects. It is best and safest to try and improve sleep naturally without the use of mediations. Here are some helpful tips on how to improve sleep!

Reading, walking, and herbal therapies can assist with improved sleep quality

Limit screen time before bed

Blue lights in our phones, tablets, and television can cause the brain to stay active and alert by simulating day time lighting. When we limit screen time before bed it allows for the increase in melatonin production. Even using dim lighting around the house before bed can assist with all the beneficial sleepy hormones we need to rest easy.

Read a novel before sleeping

Yes! You read that correctly. Not only does reading tire our eye muscles but choosing a fiction novel helps to disconnect our brains from worries that pertain to our daily lives. Self-help books do not count!

Take a walk shortly after waking

Walking outside or exercising in the morning can increase serotonin production. Serotonin is one of the neurotransmitters in our bodies that creates a feeling of well being. Did you know that serotonin production during the day can be converted into melatonin production at night?

Supplement with herbs

Herbs can help to regulate sleep and give the body a nudge in the right direction. Formulas like Reset Tonic can promote relaxation during the day and restfulness throughout the night. Sometimes we need that extra boost to regulate our nervous systems.

Incorporate magnesium daily

Magnesium contributes to SO MANY different processes in the body including mood regulation and sleep! We can incorporate magnesium daily in many ways like supplements, topically, and my personal favorite, epsom salt baths!

I hope that these simple tips can lead you to more peaceful sleep and relaxation.
